Raipur, August 14, 2026: Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Professional Management and Technology (SSIPMT), Raipur, organised a special IPR Awareness & Patent Filing Workshop aimed at strengthening awareness about Intellectual Property Rights, innovation and the patent filing process among students.
The programme was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, SSIPMT, in association with the Research & Development Cell and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), with a focus on helping students understand how innovative ideas can be identified, protected and developed for real-world applications.
The expert session was conducted by Mr. Pankaj Kumar Chand, Assistant Professor, SSIPMT, Raipur, who has expertise in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
During the session, Mr. Chand introduced students to the fundamental concepts of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and explained the importance of patents, copyrights and trademarks in academic research, technological development and innovation.
Special emphasis was placed on the patent filing process, beginning with idea conceptualisation and prior-art search and extending to documentation and submission. Students were guided on how to examine the novelty and feasibility of innovative ideas before proceeding towards intellectual property protection.
A practical hands-on session on patent search and documentation enabled participants to understand the use of patent databases and the systematic process of identifying existing technologies and related prior art.
The programme also included discussions on innovation practices, patent documentation, research, publication and intellectual property protection. Case studies of successful patents and innovations were used to help students connect theoretical knowledge with practical examples.
An interactive question-and-answer session provided participants with an opportunity to clarify their doubts related to patent filing, copyright, research ideas and innovation practices.
The three-hour offline programme witnessed the participation of 32 students, who gained practical exposure to the process of protecting intellectual contributions and developing a research-oriented and innovation-driven approach.
Through such initiatives, SSIPMT continues to encourage students to move beyond conventional classroom learning and develop awareness about research, innovation, entrepreneurship and intellectual property protection, strengthening their preparedness for future academic, technological and professional opportunities.
